Biltong

AAAH Biltong…..the mouth waters and the mind wonders at the marvel of this miracle!

If there is one thing we're sure of, it is the fact that a stick of this snack will immediately transport you back to every happy memory you’ve ever had in the sunny climes of SA. A bad piece however, could spoil the entire experience. For this reason, it is our priority to ensure that when we provide you with the opportunity of remembering good times, we make sure not to spoil it!

At Bizzi B’s both online and in-store, we only stock what we consider to be the best tasting biltong. Our biltong is tried and tested by us and our customers before going on sale. Bizzi B’s Best Biltong has developed a reputation of excellence across the UK not only for taste but also value for money.

The origin of the word is obscure but probably derives from early Afrikaans, bil referring to the hindquarters of an animal, and tong to a fillet. Biltong was originally not just a snack, but a main source of protein to the Voortrekkers of old. In South African history, the Great Trek was an eastward and north-eastward migration of the Afrikaaners (also called Boers), descendants primarily of immigrants from western mainland Europe. As a practical method of meat preservation and storage, biltong was particularly valuable to Boer Commandos during the Boer war, for, with the addition of dried fruit to their diet, they were able to stay out in the field, independent of lines of supply for many weeks. Although there are variations on this theme like the American or Australian ‘Jerky’, none can compare to the taste of real, old fashioned Boere Biltong.

Good beef biltong is made of top quality beef which has been spiced and cured before undergoing a drying process. Variations include exotics like Ostrich, Kudu, Springbok, chicken and anything else you would care to dry. We also offer both the Traditional spiced biltong, Chilli biltong, Chilli Chutney biltong (made with Mrs Balls chutney) as well as a range of Traditional, Spicy, Chilli, and Garlic bites. We have also just started making Chilli Chutney bites.

The British government is now enforcing stricter controls on biltong brought into the UK with fines of up to £1000 if caught. Although this has always been the case - you're not allowed to bring animal and plant products into the UK, they are now making this issue known.
